BMX racing has taken place in Milton Keynes since the sport was first introduced to the UK in the early 1980’s.  The city’s first track was on waste ground at Bleak Hall near the Milton Keynes Bowl, and races there were organised by a motorcycle speedway rider called Bob Humphreys.  Indoor racing (using wooden ramps) was held at the roller skating rink in the Wolverton Agora centre between 1980 and 1981.  The Milton Keynes club was formed in 1983 by two families, the Lamberts and the Titmus’s, and was originally called Ray’s Radicals (after Ray Titmus) - for the first year of its existence it used a track at Toddington in Bedfordshire.

The current track at Pineham was built by the Milton Keynes Development Corporation in 1984, and is owned by the Milton Keynes Parks Trust.  (It featured in the television advertising campaign for Milton Keynes that ran in the 1980’s – “Wouldn’t it be nice if all cities were like Milton Keynes?”).

Ray’s Radicals was disbanded in 1990, but many of the members went on to re-form the club two years later under the name MK Crew and it has continued since then, recently changing its name to Milton Keynes BMX Racing Club.

The club has consistently achieved good results – it has usually ranked in the top 4 clubs (out of around 40 clubs in the UK) in both the National Series and British Championships, and it has produced a number of very successful riders including several national champions.

Milton Keynes still holds the record for the largest attendance at a UK National race - more than 1200 riders in 1987!
